Number of Doses
For the 2011-2012 influenza season, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommends children 6 months–8 years of age who received at least 1 dose of 2010-2011 influenza vaccine, receive only 1 dose of 2011-2012 influenza vaccine.
Children 6 months–8 years of age who did not receive at least 1 dose of 2010-2011 influenza vaccine, or whom it is not certain whether 2010-2011 vaccine was received, should receive 2 doses of 2011-2012 influenza vaccine.
The ACIP has made these recommendations because the 2011-2012 vaccine strains are unchanged from those included in the 2010-2011 vaccine.
Route of Administration
- Fluzone vaccine is administered as an intramuscular injection2
- The preferred site for infants and young children is the anterolateral aspect of the thigh2
