Children 6 months through 8 years of age may need 2 doses of the flu vaccine this influenza season.1

Depending on your age or your child's age, there are different dosage forms of Fluzone vaccine available.2 Talk to your health care provider about the correct vaccine for you or your child and to schedule your vaccination.

For infants and toddlers 6 months through 35 months of age (Pediatric Dose)

If this is your child's first flu vaccination, a second dose may be required 1 month later.1 Talk to your health care provider to determine if 2 doses are necessary.

Fluzone vaccine is not appropriate for everybody.2 Children who should not get Fluzone vaccine include those who:

  • Are younger than 6 months of age2

  • Has ever had an allergic reaction to a flu vaccine2

  • Are allergic to eggs or egg products2

Safety in people 6 months of age and older

Studies have shown that Fluzone vaccine is safe for people 6 months of age and older.2 Side effects to Fluzone vaccine are soreness, pain, and swelling at the injection site; fever, fatigue, and muscle aches.

Remember: if this is your child's first flu vaccination, a second dose may be required 1 month later.1 Your health care provider will determine if 2 doses are necessary. Do not receive Fluzone vaccine if you or your child:

  • Has ever had an allergic reaction to a flu vaccine2

  • Are allergic to eggs or egg products2

Fluzone vaccine is available for persons 6 months of age and older.2 But for you or your loved ones 18 years through 64 years of age, consider Fluzone Intradermal vaccine - the flu vaccine with the 90% smaller needle.3-5 For you or your loved ones 65 years of age and older, consider Fluzone High-Dose vaccine.6

Fluzone vaccine is an inactivated influenza virus vaccine given to people 6 months of age and older to help prevent influenza disease.

Safety Information

Side effects to Fluzone vaccine are soreness, pain, and swelling at the injection site; fever, fatigue, and muscle aches. Other side effects may occur. Fluzone vaccine should not be administered to anyone with a severe allergic reaction to any vaccine component, including eggs, egg products, or thimerosal (the only Fluzone vaccine product containing thimerosal is the multi-dose vial), or to a previous dose of any influenza vaccine.

Tell the doctor if you/your child has ever experienced Guillain-Barré syndrome (severe muscle weakness) after a previous dose of influenza vaccine. If you notice any other problems or symptoms following vaccination, please contact your health care professional immediately. Vaccination with Fluzone vaccine may not protect all individuals.
